About us
Archaeological Diggings was founded by David Down in 1984. Davids first publication was the Diggings Journal, then just called Diggings. At that time Diggings was a 20 page monthly publication in black and white, printed from Davids home and was available by subscription only. David was also running guided tours of the Bible Lands.
In 1994 Archaeological Diggings was born and this publication was available to purchase in Australian newsagents. Archaeological Diggings started as a bi-monthly, 52 page, black and white publication. In 2000, Archaeological Diggings was first published in full colour. In 2008, Archaeological Diggings increased to 68 pages and our Diggings Journal became a 32 page, full colour, news journal.
David Down currently holds the role of editor in chief and Michael Browning has been running the business as managing editor since 2007. Michael is studying an MA in Egyptology at Macquarie University in Sydney.
